Kodak Lexmark Driver

USB 2.0 problem?

I had someone install a couple of USB 2.0 ports. At 1st, they seemed to be fine. I could install flash drives, transfer music, etc. But now, I can’t install anything FROM them, & sometimes I can’t even use them w/ devices I have used before. It’s weird…sometimes after I install a device through the old usb ports, I can use the 2.0 ports to use the device & other times I just can’t use the 2.0′s at ALL. 1/2 the time an error says the “device malfunctioned.” And 1/2 the time it says it does not recognize the device but still installs it as “unknown device” and says there is no driver installed for the device. But I have to click Properties to see the problem, it won’t have a “!” next to it. I have tried everything…Please Help. Some of my devices are a Kodak Cam, Zen Micro, Sandisk Cruzer Micro Flash Drive, 256mb flash drive, dsl modem usb cable, lexmark printer.

try finding the newest driver for the USB2.0 ports. You will have to look under the manufacture’s website. It sounds like the ports are malfuntioning though and need to be replaced. If you still have the receipt for the port card, return it and get a new one or contact the manufacture for the warranty information.

Scan/Archive Old Film Photos?

My parents have A TON (thousands??) of regular photos in albums from when they were kids, when me and my sister were kids, and so on… I want to at least investigate a really easy to use software or scanning device that would allow her to feed the pictures in to a scanner, have them cropped to just be the original picture, and saved easily. I know putting more than one photo on the scanning bed requires cropping which is too time consuming/complicated. Simplicity is a NECESSITY for a DYI project.

Do you know of any scanning devices/software that may be good? Or do you think contacting someone who does this sort of thing as a hobby be a better route? What is the best option for LOTS of pictures, a buget, and a person with hardly any computer knowledge? They do have a lexmark 3 in one scanner so they may not need one if there is good software out there for this project.

This is just my personal opinion based on some things I experienced. When you’re dealing with one of a kind, irreplaceable photos, stay away from any kind of automated feeding devices. Photos become brittle with age and are easily be damaged. The safest course of action is to put the photos (one at a time) on the flatbed scanner (the kind where you lift a lid and put the original on the glass plate), click the scan button, do the cropping, minor color corrections, etc. and then save that image to a folder on your hard drive. Yes, it will be time consuming but it’s the safest way to handle precious memories (IMHO.)

I’ve seen Lexmark and HP all-in-one copiers/scanners in Wal-Mart for less than $30 that would do the job. They come with installation software that lets you crop, color correct, etc before saving the photo to the computer. Or you could scan the original into a folder and later use a free editing program. A couple that come to mind are Picassa and Adobe Starter. (If you happen to have Windows Vista, it already includes an image editor called Windows Photo Gallery):

http://picasa.google.com/ >click learn more

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html >demo

It took your parents a lifetime to get all those photos. You can’t expect to scan/edit/save all of them in a couple of hours. BTW – a typical CD-R should hold several hundred photos. Wal-Mart (again) should have packs of 10 for under $10 and that might give you storage for about 5,000 photos (give or take.) If your computer has a DVD burner you can copy almost as many photos onto one DVD disk. And the reason I suggest copying to CD or DVD is if something happens to your computer, you don’t want those photos stored on only the hard drive. You could lose everything if the hard drive fails.

Lexmark Network Utility

Posted on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

I am trying to print from an iBook (Mac) to a Lexmark Z23 printer connected to a Dell desktop. Driver problems

This is my problem: under the Printer Setup Utility on the Mac, I can access the printer, via the network, on the desktop. I can Add the Z23 by name to my printer list on the Mac, and I can even select that printer and send something to it from the Mac. The print head will cycle, but nothing prints. I am convinced that if I could get the correct driver assigned to the printer on the Mac, it would print just fine. Any idea how to assign drivers to add to the list of printers under Printer Model (in the Printer Info box)?

Thanks! Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks, Wally and Jonathan. I tried your driver link, and it is the one I have installed right now. I’ll try the forums and see if I have any luck there… Thanks again!

I don’t think you can just assign drivers here and there, and just magically make things work. I’ve tried accessing a priner on a networked computer from my Mac, but it failed; but unlike your case, the printer didn’t even make the noise it usually does before printing something. I ended up purchasing a printer that does work with my Mac.
From my experience the Mac forums have people that have a lot of experience dealing Macs. Apple.com> Support> Discussions.
